About Us

AgeComm’s principal is Scott L. Parkin who has more than 27 years in communications with a focus on older Americans, their health and their well being. AgeComm helped give birth to The Green House Project (www.ncbcapitalimpact.org/thegreenhouse), a long-term care alternative, handling all of its early communications and diffusion efforts.

For seven years, he served as vice president of communications for the National Council on Aging (www.ncoa.org) where he was responsible for member communications, public and media relations, its Web site and consumer education campaigns. In 2006, he co-directed the My Medicare Matters campaign to educate seniors about the new prescription drug benefit, a campaign that earned the Public Relations Society of America’s Silver Anvil award.

From 1988-2000, he was vice president of communications and public affairs for the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (www.aahsa.org). During his time at AAHSA, Mr. Parkin was responsible for the oversight of media relations, public affairs and public relations campaigns, membership communications as well as marketing (including design and print production) and its book publishing program. As public affairs liaison to the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations, he directed a multi-faceted, national media outreach project that saved programs for older Americans from the Congressional budget axe.

Before joining AAHSA, he was associate director of public affairs for the Health Insurance Association of America (HIAA) where he handled media relations and consumer education projects related to Medigap and long-term care insurance. He drafted the first Consumer’s Guide to Long Term Care Insurance which is still in use today.

He also spent four years as manager of subscriber education for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association’s Federal Employee Program, the Blues’ largest national account where he wrote nationally recognized plain language materials for subscribers and managed a multi-tiered advertising and direct marketing campaign.

In his long career, Mr. Parkin has also worked as a reporter for daily and weekly newspapers, written free-lance scripts for both film and video production companies, published and sold advertising for his own consumer directories and produced over 50 television and radio commercials as well as several industrial films.
